Election Recount
Ballots cast in two Sanford-area House District races are scheduled to be recounted by hand in Augusta Thursday Nov. 21, according to Maine Secretary of State’s office.
In the House District 141 race, incumbent Republican Lucas Lanigan and Democratic challenger Patty Kidder tied with 2,476 votes each.
In the House District 142 race, incumbent Democrat Anne-Marie Mastraccio received 1,938 votes while Republican challenger Amy Bell received 1,874 votes, a 1.68 percent margin.
All ballots in each race will be inspected and verified by representatives from each candidate and from the Secretary of State’s office, according to spokeswoman Emily Cook. The recounts are open public proceedings and will be conducted in the Florian Room, 45 Commerce Drive, in Augusta.
Because the margin in the House District 142 race exceeds 1.5 percent, state law requires a deposit from the requesting candidate (Bell), however the deposit is returned if the apparent result is overturned.
