Janet L. Boivin, 54, of Sanford, passed away at home on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025. She was born on April 24, 1970, in Sanford, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Marian Thibodeau. Janet grew up in Sanford and attended local schools. She most recently worked at Ocean State Job Lot in Sanford, where her friendly smile and warm greetings brightened the days of her customers. Social and kind-hearted, Janet found joy in making others feel special and loved. Above all, she cherished her family, who were the center of her life. Janet loved being outdoors and spending time in nature. These moments brought her joy and connection to the world around her. Described as kind, generous, and genuine, she had a remarkable way of making everyone feel seen and valued. Janet is predeceased by three brothers: Lloyd G. Thibodeau Jr., Robert Thibodeau, and infant Michael Thibodeau. She is survived by her loving significant other, Tom Newman of Sanford; daughter Brooke Hume of Sanford and son Todd Hume of Sanford; her sister, Barbara Gagne of Sanford; her granddaughter, Ella Hume, and a large extended family. Jean Hazelton Carlisle

Jean Hazelton Carlisle, former teacher in the Sanford schools, passed away at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025. Jean, the daughter of George (“Lee”) Hazelton and Eleanor Simpson Hazelton, was born in Biddeford on May 10, 1951. She graduated from Thornton Academy in 1969 and attended the University of Maine, Farmington, where she met Allan Carlisle. They married in 1972 and started a family. When her children were older, her passion for language and teaching led her back to school at the University of Southern Maine. She was proud of her long career in education at Sanford schools, including Emerson School and Carl J. Lamb, and was a positive force in the lives of her many students. Jean was funny, with a dry wit that remained until the end. She was predeceased by her parents; infant son, Jason Carlisle; husband, Allan Carlisle; sister, Kathryn Savage; and great-niece, Eleanor Paye. She is survived by daughter Jessica Carlisle (Jeremiah Buckley) of Roswell, GA, daughter Sarah (Steve) Huntington of Scarborough, and son Daniel (Megan Hill) Carlisle of New Port Richey, FL, 10 grandchildren and a large extended family. Arthur J. Laprise

Arthur J. Laprise, 90, of Sanford, died Saturday Jan. 11, 2025, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Sanford on August 22, 1934, the son of Arthur L. and Alexandria (Morneault) Laprise. He grew up in Sanford and graduated from Sanford High School. Shortly after graduating, he began a career in the shoe manufacturing industry and continued for many years until the factory closed. He then went to work for Simplex and Computer Vision and for a time as a groundskeeper in Kennebunkport. When Arthur wasn’t working, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, going to the beach and spending time with his family. Arthur was married to Rita (Fournier) Laprise until her passing in 2013. He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Abbott-Brown and her husband Wayne; his partner, Alberta Bourque; his brother, John Laprise; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sylvia M. McCray

Sylvia M. McCray, 73, formerly of Sanford, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, as the result of an automobile accident. She was born on Feb. 26, 1951, in Massachusetts to the late Pasquale and Lillian (Burbank) Powlesland. At a young age Sylvia came to live with her family in Maine and grew up and attended local schools. She found great purpose and joy in her work as a caregiver with Anytime Services for Seniors. Whether accompanying them on outings or providing companionship, she cherished the opportunity to make a difference in their lives. Children and dogs alike were naturally drawn to Sylvia’s warm and gentle spirit. She enjoyed life and spending time with family. She also enjoyed doing word puzzles and searches, playing cribbage, going to fairs and driving her new car around. These simple joys brought her comfort and enjoyment. A woman of faith, Sylvia was an active member of the Pleasant Street Free Baptist Church in Springvale. She is predeceased by two siblings Roberta Milliken and Richard “Dickie” Ham. Survivors include her loving husband, Micheal McCray, a son, Jason Cilley of Acton, her brother Robin Ham of Acton, stepdaughters Linda McCray and Melody (McCray) Blakely of Illinois, four grandchildren, a large extended family and her chihuahua Chico. Sylvia’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and love. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 pm at Pleasant Street Free Baptist Church. Sandra Lynn Bartolome

Sandra Lynn Bartolome, 69, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2025. ‍Sandra, fondly known as Sandy, was born on May 25, 1955, in Cambridge, MA. Her loves included cooking, traveling, especially to Bar Harbor, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Joseph, two children, Joseph and Carley, and her six loving grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Sandra was predeceased by her parents, Vernon and Shirley, and her brother Ronald. Her true passion was the love of her life, Joseph, her husband of 50 years.
