The Sanford School Department is excited to welcome new students to the “Kindergarten Trail” – a series of fun and informative events designed to make each child’s transition to kindergarten smooth and enjoyable.
The journey begins with a District-Wide Kindergarten Registration Night on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 3:30 – 6:00 pm at Sanford Pride Elementary School (708 Main Street). At this event, families will have the opportunity to meet staff from all Sanford elementary schools, ask questions, and complete registration paperwork. Many local community providers will be present with informational tables to support families during this transition. Current Pre-K students do not need to register but are welcome to attend.
To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old by October 15, 2025. Parents and guardians should bring their child’s birth certificate, proof of residency, immunization records, and a parent/guardian photo ID to registration.
Following registration, families will be invited to participate in several welcoming events throughout the spring and summer. On April 3, families can attend Kindergarten Exploration to visit classrooms and meet teachers. Then on May 8, children can participate in the Playground Exploration event, meeting future classmates and enjoying a popsicle.
During the summer, families will schedule a kindergarten screening appointment where vision, hearing, and developmental milestones will be assessed. The journey culminates with an orientation and classroom open house before the first day of school.
