Bookworms, it’s the bottom of the ninth with two outs: Time is running out for the 2025 Boomer’s Bookworms Literacy Program, which concludes April 1. By this date, all readers must either submit their completed forms to their child’s teacher or have them postmarked to the Sanford Mainers front office. Readers should be sure to include their name and grade. Those who recorded their reading progress and made their way around the bases will earn two tickets to either the June 23 or July 13 Sanford Mainers game. FMI, go here.
A chance to grow at the Sanford Community Garden: Spaces are available at the Sanford Community Garden for interested gardeners to grow some of their own food. Everything needed for a successful harvest is provided free. Plus, Master Gardener Volunteers are available for guidance and information. Get started by clicking here and submitting the application for a garden plot before April 12. The garden is a project of the Sanford Springvale Mousam Way Land Trust with generous support from Kennebunk Savings.
Chamber welcomes a new Main Street Marketplace business: The Sanford Springvale Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed The Eatery @ Cruisin’ Infusions at the Main Street Marketplace, 890 Main St., Suite 102 in Sanford. Cruisin’ Infusions is already known to many. However, the caterer expanded its business by opening a take-out and Door Dash location. The Eatery offers cold and hot sandwiches, bowls, chips, cookies, beverages and a dessert of the week. Hours are Monday through Friday, 11 am to 3 pm. For a look at the menu, go here.
Put the rain to good use: Three Rivers Land Trust is partnering with The Great American Rain Barrel to offer rain barrels at a discounted price so rainwater from your roof can be used for your watering needs, possibly lowering water bills, conserving well water during the dry season, and reducing polluted stormwater runoff. According to the EPA, a 500-square-foot roof can fill a properly installed 50-gallon rain barrel in approximately one hour, and one full rain barrel can water a 200-square-foot garden.
Barrels must be purchased by April 13 at 5 pm, and will be available for pick up on Saturday, April 26, from 11 am to 3 pm, at Eldredge Lumber, 1787 Main St. in Sanford. Rain barrels come with spigots and mosquito screens and are ready to install under a gutter or a roof spout. To order, go to www.greatamericanrainbarrel.com/community/ and select Sanford, Maine for the city and state. FMI, email ruth@3rlt.org or call 207-358-9619.

Tips to support your little one’s growth: Basics Insights, for parents and caregivers of children ages 0 to 4 years old, is a free text messaging program that provides simple tips, information, activities and reminders to help boost child development. A day of shopping, discovery and connection: A Spring Market is planned for April 19, from 10 am to 2 pm, at Memorial Gym, 678 Main St., Sanford. A diverse selection of local artisans, vendors and creators will showcase their homemade goods, one-of-a-kind crafts, unique finds and fresh, seasonal treats. The market will also have live music and children’s activities. Mark your calendars! It’s time to celebrate spring.
