Did somebody say chocolate? Sanford Backpack Program is holding its 9th Annual Chocolate Benefit Spectacular on April 26 at 6 pm at Memorial Gym. The evening will feature decadent treats from more than a dozen chocolatiers, live music, raffles, and a cash bar. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste all the sweet treats, from classic Maine whoopie pies and chocolate-dipped candied treats to more exotic candies and chocolate-covered foods and to vote on their favorite chocolatier. Event judges will also select winners in various categories. VIP tables for eight people are available as well as general admission tickets. Proceeds help the Sanford Backpack Program continue to fight youth hunger in the community. Purchase tickets here. FMI, email backpacks@strongersanford.org.

Grant helps YCCAC provide transportation for cancer care: York County Community Action Corp. (YCCAC) has received a $30,000 grant from the Maine Cancer Foundation (MCF) to continue providing free or low-cost transportation to cancer patients traveling to hospitals, treatment centers and oncology appointments. “We are grateful for MCF’s grant funding,” said Tom Reinauer, director of transportation. “Their financial support allows us to meet the needs of the community and will mean better health outcomes for our clients.”

Without reliable transportation, patients can miss appointments, have lower compliance rates for screening or follow-ups, or skip treatments altogether. Last year, YCCAC provided more than 2,100 cancer care trips for 113 patients to 38 locations. Anyone with questions or needing details on transportation for medical appointments can call 207-459-2932 for more information.
