Francis H. O’Gorman, 81, of Sanford, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 7, surrounded by his loving family. Francis was born in Saco on Feb. 2, 1944, the youngest child of James and Pearl (Cole) O’Gorman. He grew up in Sanford, where he enjoyed playing trumpet in the school band and graduated from Sanford High School. Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Francis pursued his passion for music, earning a degree in music from the University of Southern Maine. He later obtained a degree in building trades from Southern Maine Community College. He married the love of his life, Linda, in 1975 and together they raised their children. Francis worked at Pratt & Whitney until his retirement in 2008. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who dedicated countless hours to supporting youth sports in the community, coaching teams, volunteering with the Sanford Athletic Boosters, and faithfully attending every game, scrimmage, or recital his children and grandchildren participated in. In retirement, Francis found joy in the simple things – trips to his family camp in Vermont, daily walks with a group of fellow veterans, reading, and caring for his yard. He was a kind, steady presence who gave generously of his time and love. Francis was predeceased by his parents; his brother, James; his sister, Lorraine; and his nephew Douglas. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; daughters Teena, Katie (Adam), and Jill (Mark); and sons Cullen, Brent, and Kendal (Gretchen), and his niece Debbie (Chris) of Yarmouth. He was a proud grandfather of 10 and a great-grandfather of one. Francis will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. A burial service will be held at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale on Thursday, May 1, at 10 am with a celebration of life to follow at the Springvale Social Club.
