Joan W. Anderson, 91, of Sanford, died peacefully on Thursday March 27, 2025. She was born in Fort Fairfield on Dec. 1, 1933, the daughter of Peter and Alice (Parker) Cyr. She earned her associate’s degree in nursing and was very devoted to her nursing career. She loved being a nurse and worked until the age of 78. Joan enjoyed her pets, playing the piano, reading, and dancing with her husband, Sam; they excelled at dancing the jitterbug. She was dedicated to her family and always enjoyed the many parties and gatherings they had. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Anderson and siblings, Marilyn Fazio and Christine Ball and daughter, Kathleen Domijan. She is survived by her children, Mary Moulton, Donna Rothaus, Lloyd Rothaus and Rebecca Poirier; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be held at the Black Heald and Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale on Friday, May 2, at 2 pm.

Justin Choquette

Justin Choquette was born on August 1, 1991 and died on April 5, 2025.

The Celebration of Life will be held on April 14, 2025 at 1pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel at Kennebunk. 67 Summer St. Kennebunk, ME.

Pauline Avis Doucette

Pauline Avis Doucette, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend died on March 28, 2025. She was born in North Conway, New Hampshire on August 23, 1942, the daughter of Carroll W. and Edith L. McAllister. Pauline grew up in her family home in Lovell, Maine with her six siblings. It was a place that held great memories for her, and she shared many stories about growing up on a small family farm with her children and grandchildren. Pauline attended Fryeburg Academy and graduated in 1960. After graduation, Pauline moved to Portland, Maine and enrolled in a Certified Nurse’s Assistant course and worked at Maine General Hospital. While working there, Pauline met and married Howard E. Whalen. They settled in Massachusetts where they started raising their three daughters. Later they moved to Marietta Georgia. Missing her family in Maine, Pauline moved back to Maine with her three daughters and settled in Springvale. She was employed by Sprague Electric and then by Brooks Woolen in Sanford. Pauline met Robert Doucette at a dance and they later married in 1988. They enjoyed gardening, cooking together, camping and traveling across the country visiting family. Pauline loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was thoughtful, compassionate and always willing to help anyone who needed help. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Doucette; her sister Barbara Chapman; brothers Watson, Larry and Earl McAllister and a daughter Cathy Whalen from her first marriage. Pauline is survived by sisters Daphine “Kay” Drisko and Carolyn Pukus. daughter Diane (Whalen) Sawyer, and Jay Sawyer. Elizabeth (Whalen) Authier. Leann and John Stremkowski, Karen Menard, Kris Wells, Michael Doucette and Eric Doucette, from Robert’s first marriage; 19 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 am with a funeral following at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 10th at the Black-Heald & Walker Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. Robert J. Scott, 81, of Sanford, died Thursday March 20, 2025 at Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages, Florida. He was lovingly cared for by his dear friend, Carole Foye of Billerica. Bob was born May 25, 1943 in Revere, Massachusetts, the son of Walter F. Sr. and Mary (Mallio) Scott. He graduated from Revere High School and the University of Southern Maine. He worked at Pratt and Whitney, later leaving due to ill health. He sold cars for a while but then fully retired in 1993. Bob was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed reading automobile magazines and collecting diecast replica cars. He liked working outside in his yard and spending time with his dog Dusty, a golden retriever. Robert is survived by his daughter Stacey Rowsky; brothers, Walter Scott and Richard Scott; his grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Black, Heald and Walker Funeral Home on Friday April 25 at 2:00 pm. https://conroytullywalker.com

Perry Elwin Wood

Perry Elwin Wood, 81, of Sanford, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, where he spent the day reminiscing with family and loved ones. He was born in Sanford on March 9, 1944, to Lawrence and Arlene (Forrest) Wood. A graduate of Sanford High School, Perry devoted much of his life to public service, first working in the state’s surplus food program delivering food to those in need in Sanford and the surrounding communities, and later as a manager in the Sanford branch of the Department of Human Services, where he remained until his retirement in 2009. He was active in the community, serving many years in the Sanford Lions Club and the Sanford Democratic Party. He and his wife loved to cheer on the lacrosse and field hockey teams for which his daughter served as coach, and he was very proud of his book, a collection of short stories about growing up and being a parent. In later years, he enjoyed having spirited conversations at the Sanford Elks Club. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Louise J. Wood, and one brother, Lawrence D. Wood. He is survived by his son, Michael L. Wood (Raina Ames); a daughter, Marcia L. Wood (Lisa Goldberg); brothers William (Marsha) Wood and Frank Wood; sister Linda Hunt (Adrienne) and sister-in-law Debbie Ward. He leaves behind a large extended family. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 4 to 7 pm at Black Heald and Walker Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 13, from noon to 3 pm at the Sanford Elks Lodge, 13 Elm St.
