Lucien Joseph Bouchard, 70, of Sanford, died Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at his home. He was born in Fort Kent on Sept. 28, 1954, the son of Hubald and Annie (Rossignol) Bouchard. He grew up in Frenchville but moved to Sanford at the age of 16. Lucien worked at Aerofab painting planes and was a machine operator at Rubb but was a mechanic most of his life, owning his own garage for several years before eventually going to work for the Town of Wells. He worked there for many years as a mechanic/equipment operator until his retirement. He married his wife, Victoria, in 1989 and they remained close right up until his passing. When he wasn’t working, Lucien still enjoyed working on cars, playing pool and going fishing. He also loved to play cards and enjoyed an occasional beer with friends and family. He was very much a family man. Lucien is survived by his former wife, Victoria; his daughters, Joanne Poissonier of Sanford and Michelle Poissonier of Sanford; his four grandchildren; his brother, Jerry Bouchard of Florida, and his sister, Rose Cox of Connecticut, as well as many nieces and nephews. A time of sharing was held at the Black, Heald and Walker Funeral Home, on Tuesday, April 1.

Joyce Rose Caron, 68, died peacefully at home on March 7, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born in Sanford on March 11, 1956, to Romeo and Claire Caron. As a child, Joyce spent summers visiting her extended family in New Brunswick. She graduated from Sanford High School in 1975. After graduation, Joyce became a mother to her four children; being a mother was what brought her the most joy in her life. Joyce loved her hometown of Sanford and enjoyed the beach, long walks, writing short stories, drawing, going to bingo (with one of her elephant knickknacks for good luck), and, most importantly, her family. Joyce spent most of her career in retail, but she was most fond of her time working as a crossing guard for the Sanford School Department. Before her retirement, she worked for over 15 years at HMS Host in Kennebunk, where she made lasting friendships, developed pen pals, and enjoyed meeting travelers on their way through Maine. Surviving Joyce are her children, Travis Penney (Madeline), Coddy Penney (Jen), Nyah Penney and Kera Levasseur (Tyson); her sister, Sandra Gray (Armand Morin), and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Richard Hoskins. Memorial services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, April 22, at Bibber Memorial at Autumn Green (47 Oak St., Alfred). Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.

Gene had an unending passion for learning and many interests. He loved nature, fishing, hunting, and history. His hobbies were as varied as they were numerous. He returned to college to earn his associate’s degree from Macintosh College in the 1990s. He worked in a variety of jobs throughout his life. He may be best remembered for his time at Wasco, or Dave’s Dugout, where he supported local hunters and fishermen. He retired as a curatorial assistant at Harvard University’s Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments, a job he truly enjoyed. Gene built lifelong friendships and befriended anyone he met. Whether he was chatting with neighbors while tending his zinnias or garlic, or running into long-lost acquaintances at the grocery store, Gene was always happy to swap stories and catch up on life. Steven Roberge was born on August 8, 1948, in Sanford. He peacefully passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at age 76 with his family at his side. As a young child, he spoke only French; as he learned English in school, he helped his parents and siblings learn English. In his youth, he loved and played most sports, but football was definitely his favorite. He graduated from Sanford High School in 1968 and then enlisted in the Navy in 1969 for a four-year term. While in the Navy he got to experience being stationed in Iceland and Scotland. During the time he spent at sea, Steve was often used as the ship’s French English interpreter. He then went on to work as an electrician and radio technician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he later retired as a planner and estimator in 2003 at the age of 55. Steve always had a passion for life and a love for the outdoors; he filled his early retirement years with many rounds of golf with his dear friends and family, as well as plenty of long cruises on his beloved Harley. Throughout his entire life, he was an avid outdoorsman. Whether it was spending countless hours fishing on his boat or sitting in his tree stand waiting for that big buck to walk by, nature was his happy place. Steve was a kind, caring, fun, loving soul, always the first to offer a hand to anyone in need. He was a devoted father and a loving grandfather. The family was always very important to Steve. Whether it was a birthday, a reunion, a school event, a sports game, a dance recital, or cheering event, Steve was there. He was also an active member of the American Legion and the Lafayette Club, where he could often be found hosting his weekly cribbage tournament. Steve survived by and will be greatly missed by his son, Jeremy Roberge of Shapleigh and his three granddaughters, Rachael Bonia, Madison Roberge, and Makenzie Roberge. Also surviving are his younger twin sisters, Linda Poirier of Lyman and Stella Roberge of Daytona Beach, FL, and his younger brother, Rodney Roberge of Arundel. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Urbain Leo Roberge and Cecile Aurora Caron. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 7, at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale. A Celebration of Life will follow from 3-6 pm at the V.F.W. Post #9935 in Sanford.

Prior to his retirement in 2022, Ron worked as a machinist. As with everything he did in life, at work he was surrounded by friends and made the shop a happy place filled with stories and laughter. Many days after work and in retirement, Ron loved stopping by to have a beer with his friends at the Lafayette Club, where he was an active member for over 45 years and was the club’s president until his death. There was nothing more important to Ron than his family and friends. He coached his kids’ Little League teams and never missed their high school football or basketball games.
