The library at Sanford Community Adult Education was filled to capacity on Wednesday, June 11, as 19 graduates celebrated their accomplishment with friends, families and staff. They were among 32 people receiving their diplomas this year – the largest class since before the Covid pandemic.
Graduate Isabella Verissiomo, opened the ceremony by singing the National Anthem followed by opening words from Superintendent of Schools Matt Nelson. Three student speakers, Tylor Phillips, Isabella Verissiomo and Kelly McLean Theriault, stepped up to the podium to share their journey to graduation and express thanks to friends, family, teachers, and SCAE staff who had supported them along the way. Elias Thomas of the Sanford Springvale Rotary Club presented SCAE Director Jayne Perkins with the club’s Paul Harris Fellow Award for “service above self” and encouraged the graduates to emulate her example.
Rotary scholarships were awarded to Zoie Mello. Tylor Phillips, Joseph Proia, and Kelly McLean Theriault. University of Maine Scholarships were awarded to every student in attendance. Tylor Phillips was recognized as the SCAE Outstanding Student of 2025.
