The City of Sanford Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for two days of hometown celebration for Independence Day on July 3 and 4. Featured will be a block party, fireworks and a parade.
“Our Parks and Rec team is excited to host this great community tradition once again,” said Parks and Recreation Director Brady Lloyd. “Every year, our staff looks forward to these events. We love seeing families, friends, and neighbors come together to celebrate.”
Festivities kick off at 4 pm on Thursday, July 3, at Number One Pond with the return of the popular Block Party. The evening will feature a wide variety of food and craft vendors, live entertainment, and activities for all ages. The fan favorite water ski show begins with warmups at 6 pm, followed by the full performance around 6:30. After the show, a DJ will take over the roundabout around 7:45, building excitement and energy as the evening leads up to the grand finale, the fireworks display. That’s scheduled to begin around 9 pm, or as soon as it gets dark. The rain date for this event is July 2.
The celebration continues on Friday, July 4, with Sanford’s annual Independence Day parade. The parade will step off at 10 am near Malcolm Avenue and travel along Main Street to Gowen Park. This year’s parade theme is “Fly Like an Eagle.”
“Whether it’s your first time attending or your favorite yearly tradition, we invite everyone to come out and celebrate with us,” said Lloyd. “It’s going to be a fun, festive, and memorable Fourth in Sanford!”
