The Sanford Alumni Association is working with the School’s Athletic Department to complete two fencing projects at Sanford High’s athletic fields. One is a new 600-foot fence that will be installed in the outfield of the Cochin Baseball Field. The other project involves the installation of new gates to create better access to Alumni Stadium. The Alumni Association looks to local companies whenever possible when considering these projects and for these projects they were able to work with local company, Stone Fencing. They will be scheduling the work during the summer months while field use is minimal.

These projects are only a few of many that the Alumni Association has been involved in funding for Sanford Schools. One of the most recent projects to be completed was the grand entrance to Alumni Stadium (pictured), which was designed and constructed by the Sanford Regional Technical Center’s staff and students. This creation was the final piece of the ticket booth which was several years in the making and included the work and contributions of many members and local businesses.

These building projects may not have been possible within the constraints of the general school budget so having the Alumni Association step up to offer a funding source is a win-win for the students of Sanford and taxpayers.

The projects taken on by the Alumni Association are supported by their fundraising efforts. The Association is made up of a board of Sanford High School alumni and supported by the greater community, individuals and businesses alike.

Their largest fundraiser is the Annual Spree of Trees. It’s a perfect example of the entire community coming out to support the Alumni Association. Businesses and individuals sponsor decorated and themed trees. According to Association’s board members, community members come out to bid on the trees they want to win or just to support the effort because they know about the projects the funds will provide for.

In addition to the athletic building projects, the Association honors the Sanford High School graduating senior with the largest number of community service hours with a scholarship each year. They’re also working toward a mentoring program that will create opportunities for current students to make purposeful connections with alumni.

The Alumni Association would like to have voices from different age groups and class years to become involved and have representation on the board. They invite all Sanford alumni to contact them at info@sanfordalumniassociation.org.
