Sanford High Athletes Deliver Strong Performances at Regional, State Championships

Sanford High School athletes delivered strong performances at the SMAA Southwestern Indoor Track Championships at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, February 7. Mattea Peters led the way with a sweep of first-place finishes in the high jump, 400-meter dash, and 200-meter dash.
Isaac Pelletier took third in the 800-meter run, while Avery Wedge placed second in the 55-meter dash. Dezmend Donegan turned in a solid double effort with seventh in the 55-meter dash and sixth in the 200-meter dash. Michael Mastraccio finished eighth in the 2-mile run.
On the girls’ side, Grace Eaton placed seventh in the 800-meter run and Lily Peters took sixth in the triple jump.
The Spartan wrestling team finished sixth at the Class A South Regionals, highlighted by Ricky Callis claiming the regional championship in the 175-pound division. Gabe Williams also had a strong showing, taking second place in the 157-pound division.
The Spartan Cheerleaders placed 11th in the Class A State Championships.
