It’s been a long time coming: Above and Beyond Catering has broken ground for their planned expansion, constructing an addition to its existing building at the corner of Shaw’s Ridge and Ridley roads, as well as adding a new gravel parking lot. The addition will include function and buffet space, a small bar, restrooms and a food prep area.
Get your library bumpah stickah: Although National Library Week ended last week, “I Love My Library” bumper stickers are still for sale for $5 each at Goodall Library. Cash and checks are accepted. All funds go to the library to help expand their collections and programs.
Late-night traffic stop yields 53.2 grams of fentanyl: At about 10:30 pm on April 7, York County Sheriff’s Deputy Alex Markellos pulled over a suspicious vehicle near the Sanford/Alfred line for driving without headlights or taillights. The driver, identified as Jason Mowry, 46, and the passenger, identified as Kellie Littlefield, 57, were both involved in a recent narcotics investigation which resulted in Littlefield’s arrest for unlawful possession of a Schedule W drug, a felony. Deputy Markellos was assisted at the scene by Deputy Frazier and K9 Rebel. Their search found 4.3 grams of fentanyl where Mowry was seated as well as 48.9 grams of fentanyl on Littlefield, yielding a total of 53.2 grams of fentanyl. (Note: 2 mg of fentanyl is considered a potentially lethal dose.) Littlefield was charged with aggravated trafficking of unlawful scheduled drugs (a Class A felony) and two counts of violation of conditions of release (Class E). No bail was settled for Littlefield, and she was scheduled for arraignment on April 9. Mowry was charged with unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs (Class B Felony) and violation of conditions of release (Class E). He is not eligible for bail and no court date has been scheduled.
Help Lily get the care she needs: A prominent story in the news last month was a March 21 fire in Sanford that left multiple people and pets without a home or their belongings. One of the pets, Lily, is a Chinese crested powderpuff dog who needs help. When Lily found her family, she was severely underweight and had rarely spent time outside. She has gained weight and is a happier, healthier dog, but once again she faced tragedy in the loss of her family home. Another Chance Animal Rescue (ACAR) has a new home lined up for Lily, but first she needs surgery, which is scheduled for April 19 at Broadview Animal Hospital and is expected to cost between $1,200 and $1,600. Gee, I wish I could borrow one of those: Goodall Library is looking for suggestions on items to add to their “Library of Things,” which are items in their collection that can be checked out with a library card beyond the traditional book, movie, magazine and puzzle loans. They already have a ukulele, a dulcimer, and sleds. What other items would you like to be able to check out for free from your library? Spring into action at the St. Thomas fair: The 40th Annual St. Thomas School Spring Fever Fair will be held April 28, 9 am to 3 pm, at Memorial Gym. The fair will offer gift baskets, a penny raffle, special prizes, a giant yard sale, a Visa gift card raffle, plants, kids’ activities, Kona ice, food for purchase and more. Lobstah for a cause: Corbin’s Legacy, a Sanford nonprofit that provides support and assistance to families who have lost a baby before birth, is holding a fundraising raffle, and the prize is everything you need to hold your own Maine lobster bake. The winner will receive six live lobsters, three pounds of steamers, corn on the cob and a bag of potatoes. Tickets are $5 each, 3 for $10 or 8 for $20, and can be purchased in person at Springvale Social Club or ONTarget Gunsmithing, or through Venmo by emailing corbinslegacy@outlook.com. The winner will be drawn on May 11.
