York County Senior College celebrated its 25th anniversary at its annual meeting and luncheon on June 4 at Ferry Beach Conference Center in Saco.

Formed in 1999, YCSC originally held classes in-person at a variety of locations, including Springvale’s UMA/Anderson Learning Center, and Springvale Library; in Saco at UMA/Saco Center, The Wardwell, Biddeford Pool Community Center, Huntington Commons, and Trinity Episcopal Church.

COVID tested the organization’s skills, prompting it to adopt the Zoom format and halting face-to-face interaction temporarily. With perseverance and good humor, educational opportunities continued – fall classes, spring classes and our Gary Sullivan Winter Lecture Series. The Senior College is working to bring back a full array of in-person classes while still offering online access. The organization needs and welcomes new instructors and members. As the college says: “We offer free, intellectual activity – no prerequisites, no homework, no papers to write, no tests, no grades.”
