The Greater Sanford 14U All-Stars battled all the way to the top in the Babe Ruth World Series in Branson, MO, coming up short in a 4-0 contest against Manassas, VA, on Wednesday.

The team had earned a 2-2 record in pool play to advance to the elimination round. After a challenging opener against Panama, the team bounced back with an impressive 9-5 win over the United Kingdom, highlighted by a two-run single from Henry Marcotte in the first inning.

Following a matchup with Westchester, CA., Sanford closed pool play in thrilling fashion with a 5-4 victory over the Philippines. In that game, Kasey Bean raced home with the winning run in the final inning, while Marcotte, Max Cote, and Landen Richard delivered standout performances both at the plate and on the mound.

A full recap of the team’s World Series journey will appear in next week’s issue.
