Dedication planned just in time for the fall sports season: The new entrance and ticket booth at Alumni Stadium, a project that had been several years in the making, resulted from the generosity of many donors, volunteers and businesses in the community. To honor those who made this project possible, the public is invited to the Ticket Booth Dedication Night to be held Friday, Sept. 12, at 5:30 pm. The Sanford Alumni Association was involved in funding the recently completed entrance, which was designed and constructed by the Sanford Regional Technical Center’s staff and students. Read more about Sanford Alumni Association efforts in funding this and other school projects here.
Brighten up the fall landscape and support Graduation 2026: Sanford High School’s Class of 2026 is holding a Mum Fundraiser from Aug. 14 to Sept. 10 to benefit Project Graduation. A variety of colors are offered at a price of $13 for each 9-inch mum. Pick up will be Saturday, Sept. 13, from noon to 3 pm in the lower parking lot of the Sanford-Springvale YMCA. Orders can be placed here. Questions? Contact Tonya Pickering at tpicks1986@gmail.com and put MUMS in the subject line.
Schools look to ease students’ transition back to school: Each of the city’s three elementary schools — Carl J. Lamb at 233 Shaws Ridge Road in Springvale, Margaret Chase Smith at 248 Twombley Road in Sanford, and Sanford Pride at 708 Main St. in Sanford — will hold an Open House on Thursday, Aug. 28, from 5 to 6 pm. Students and their families will have the opportunity to meet their teachers and staff, see their classroom and tour the school.
Sanford Middle School’s Open House will be on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Students in grades 5 and 6 and their parents/guardians are invited to attend from 5 to 6 pm, and students in grades 7 and 8 and their parents/guardians meet from 6 to 7 pm.
An orientation for incoming freshmen and new students at Sanford High School (SHS) is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 6 pm at the high school. Students and their families will have an opportunity to connect with the SHS community, become familiar with the campus, get important information for the school year, and meet staff.
