Civil War Reenactment: The Military and Daily Life of a Soldier

Press Release

The 3rd Maine Volunteer Regiment will host a Civil War demonstration highlighting the military and daily life of a soldier. Visitors will gain a sense of what life was like during the mid-1860s when the North and South fought for preservation and destruction of the Union.

OVERVIEW

Wander back in time and experience the sights and sounds of the Civil War when the 3rd Maine, Company A, Volunteer Regiment sets up camp on the Historical Society’s grounds. This event will showcase camp life, military drills, and artillery firing.

Visitors will also be able to learn about the daily life in camp from the type of food they ate, clothing they wore and activities to while away the time. “One of the most important aspects that will be demonstrated will be a section about the medical practices during the war,” said Executive Director, Patricia Violette-Adams. “Medical innovations provided by Jim Burke will include an in-depth look at the medical practices, challenges, and breakthroughs that emerged during the Civil War. He will highlight the evolution of battlefield medicine, the dedication of medical personnel, and the advancements that laid the groundwork for modern medical practices.”

Visitors will also be able to view the Historical Society’s exhibit on the Civil War with genuine artifacts found on the Gettysburg battlefield, medals of honor awarded to the 27th Maine and other various objects on display. After your visit to the Museum, stop in at the E.E. Goodwin Victorian Mansion next door that will bring your experience full circle. This will be a fun time for the whole family.
