At its recent annual meeting, the Maine Town and City Clerks Association elected Sanford City Clerk and Voter Registrar Susan Cote as its new president. The group provides a forum for municipal clerks to share ideas, address challenges, and strengthen the effectiveness of clerk offices across Maine.
“I am honored to serve as president of the MTCCA and hope to serve Maine clerks as well as my predecessors have,” Cote said, noting that clerks’ offices are all about service. “Clerks guide residents through life events — from the joy of a new baby, a new car or a wedding to the sadness of needing death certificates. We strive for accuracy, compassion, and helping people understand the laws and statutes that guide what we do, while also making the work easier for our staff and providing good customer service.”
Cote’s career in public service began in 1988, when she joined the Town Clerk/Tax Collector’s Office after working at H.D. Goodall Hospital’s switchboard. What started as an assistant clerk position grew into a decades-long career, culminating in her current role.
“The state is lucky to have Susan in this role, and we’re excited she was elected,” said Mayor Becky Brink. “She’s intelligent and dedicated, often working extra hours to ensure everything is done right. Her attention to detail and commitment to accuracy make her an invaluable asset. Sanford is fortunate to have her representing our community at the state level.”
