Sanford High School’s Spartan Marching Band captured a Gold Medal at the Maine State Marching Band Finals on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Alumni Stadium, earning a perfect score of 5/5 stars in every performance category.
The achievement marks the second consecutive year where SHS earned five-star ratings across all categories. Performing their “Echoes of the Earth” themed show, the band impressed judges with their execution across all categories including Music, General Effect, Color Guard, Percussion, Visual, and Drum Major.
The gold medal performance capped a successful season that included five competitions, highlighted by a first-place finish in Division 2A at the US Bands competition at UMass Amherst on Sept. 27.
Sanford hosted the state finals for the fourth consecutive year, welcoming 11 bands from across Maine and New Hampshire to compete at Alumni Stadium beginning.
Band Director Hailey Francoeur credited the community’s support for the band’s success, with special thanks to all who attended the performance, donated food and volunteered their time, and to the Music Boosters who provided ongoing support throughout the season.
