Joseph J. Levesque, 81, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at The Lodges in Springvale.

Joseph was born on July 22, 1943, in Frenchville to Henry and Jane (Fournier) Levesque. He grew up in Frenchville, where he attended local schools and developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work and simplicity. As a young man, Joseph owned and operated a small farm where he raised pigs, calves, ducks, and other animals. He also worked in the potato fields during harvest season, embodying the steadfast work ethic that would define his life.

Joseph relocated to Sanford to be closer to family and began working at Genest Concrete. He remained there for many years, earning the respect of his coworkers through his reliability and quiet dedication, until his retirement. A proud member of the Knights of Columbus in Sanford, Joseph valued community and faith, though he lived them humbly through his actions more than words.

Joseph was known for his frugality and his quiet, gentle nature. He found joy in the simple things. He was happiest at home, surrounded by the familiar comforts of the life he built. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Quiet and steady, hardworking and kind, Joseph lived a humble life rooted in family, faith, and simplicity. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Joseph was predeceased by several siblings and their spouses: Romeo and Laurette Levesque, Allyre Levesque, Lawrence Levesque, Oneil and Lois Levesque, Gilbert and Juliette Levesque, Aline Mayo, and Joan Levesque.

He is survived by his siblings, Emile (Alice) Levesque; Patricia (Geral) Labbe; and Claude Levesque; his sister-in-law, Madeline Levesque; sister-in-law Iva Levesque and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Joanne married her high school sweetheart, Michael, on Oct. 17, 1959. Together, they began a life of adventure as an Air Force family, raising their children Christopher and Leslie, while living across the country and spending five years in Germany. During their time abroad, they traveled extensively throughout Europe, believing strongly in exposing their family to new experiences and cultures.

A talented floral designer, Joanne also had a passion for cooking, refinishing furniture and collecting artwork.
