Ted Lasso would be proud: No matter where you live in Sanford or Springvale, you may have heard loud cheers coming from Shaw Field the second weekend in October. The Sanford Soccer Association hosted the annual Pete Levasseur Fall Classic over three days with 132 teams competing across 267 matches and nearly 7,000 interested spectators attending. Twelve teams from Sanford participated. This event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the nonprofit club.

Sanford offers weekly b-ball for adults: Adult Basketball Open Gym through Sanford Parks and Recreation started on Oct. 20 and runs through April 13. Participants play a recreation format on Monday nights at Memorial Gymnasium, 7 – 9 pm. Players sign-in and pay $4 each Monday that they attend. Enter the gym through Door #3. Drop-in volleyball for high schoolers and adults: Volleyball for adults and Sanford High School youth started on Oct. 20 and runs through April 13. Participants play on Mondays at Sanford Pride Elementary School (changed from Margaret Chase Smith Elementary School), 7 – 9 pm. The cost is $2 for high school students and $3 for adults. Youth basketball for grades 7 – 12: Youth Basketball Open Gym through Sanford Parks and Recreation started on Oct. 21 and runs through April 14. Participants in grades 7 – 12 play Tuesday nights at Memorial Gymnasium, 7 – 9 pm. Enter the gym through Door #3. The cost is $2 per person. Participants pay only on the nights they can play.
