Life in the fun lane: Sanford High School Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG) students organized a Special Olympics bowling event for individuals ages 14 and older on Friday, Oct. 24, at Bowl-A-Rama. The event serves as a qualifier for athletes to enter the state competition, which will take place in the spring. The annual Special Olympics event, which JMG has hosted since 2018, enables the students to connect with and serve their community.
Ensuring middle schoolers have a ball outside: For their November Random Act of Kindness, Sanford Middle School PTA wants to give every middle school student access to a “Bag of Fun” for outdoor activities. They are seeking donations of recreational equipment, such as basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, kick balls, four-square balls, waffle ball sets, frisbees and jump ropes. This equipment will help ensure that all students have a chance to enjoy their time outside and promote physical activity and foster an inclusive environment. To donate, email smsptame@gmail.com or comment on the organization’s Facebook page. They will arrange for pick-up.
SHS food drive aims for full plates on Thanksgiving: Sanford High School’s Peer Helpers program is hosting its annual food drive through Wednesday, Nov. 20. The event, which helps feed the families of 50 students for the Thanksgiving holiday, is supported by local businesses, clubs, sports teams and teachers. Each class is assigned a specific item to donate. “My favorite thing about this program is seeing the appreciation on students’ and families’ faces, as well as getting the entire school involved in doing a good thing,” said Peer Helpers organizer Beth Letourneau, school counseling director.
