Achievements of note for Sanford students, past and present: Several current and former students represented Sanford at the Maine Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition held Saturday, Nov. 8, at the University of Southern Maine. Claire Davie earned 1st place in Classical Division II with “His Eye on the Sparrow” and tied for 3rd place in Musical Theater Division II with “Shy” from “Once Upon a Mattress.” Ava Allen took home 1st place in Classical Division III with “L’ho Perduta,” and Ava Fagan, who sang “Hopelessly Devoted to You” from the musical “Grease,” earned 3rd place in Musical Theater Division III. Miranda Payeur, who performed “Times are Hard for Dreamers” and “Watch What Happens” just missed placing in Musical Theater Division III.
Former Sanford students Hope Abbott-Eaton and Aberdeen Brickett, now studying classical voice at the Osher School of Music at USM, also won awards. Abbott-Eaton earned 2nd place in Classical Division IV and Brickett tied for 1st place in Classical Division V.
All the singers are students of Caleb Randall, a NATS-affiliated voice teacher and Sanford High School alumnus. The National Association of Teachers of Singing, which celebrated its 80th anniversary last year, is the largest professional association of voice teachers in the world.
