SHS boys cross country competes in state championship: Sanford High School student Isaac Pelletier finished 9th in the Class A race and 13th in all classes at the Boys Cross Country State Championship race on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Cony High School in Augusta. With his performance, he has qualified to compete in the New England Championships on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Thetford Academy in Vermont.
As a team, Sanford had strong performances from Michael Mastraccio, finishing in 26th, and Jack Stimmell, Gabe Waterman, and Dom Penley all finishing in the top 70, to help secure 7th place in Class A.
SHS field hockey falls to Biddeford in semifinals: Following their 3-2 victory over Falmouth in the Class A South quarterfinal on Oct. 28, the third-seeded Sanford High School field hockey team was scheduled to play second-seeded Biddeford High School in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford. Sanford was bested by Biddeford 2-1. Ella Tederous scored the lone goal and goalkeeper Evelyn Cole made 11 saves for Sanford.
A close match for SHS girls soccer: Sanford High School’s girls varsity soccer took on Windham High School at Windham in the Class A South quarterfinals on Oct. 28. Sanford led 1-0 at halftime, but sixth-seeded Sanford High School eventually fell to third-seeded Windham by a score of 2-1. Avary Dilallo scored for Sanford and Spartans keeper Sophie Olivo made 17 saves.
