Compiled by Rev. Susan Murphy

Valerie Ann Andrick, 51, of Sanford, passed away last weekend, at her residence. Valerie was born on Feb. 1, 1974, in Ellsworth to the late John Whitmore and Elizabeth Jean (BJ) Maybury. She grew up in Ellsworth and attended local schools, graduating from Brewer High School with the Class of 1992. She later continued her education at Husson College, where she earned an associate degree in business.

Valerie dedicated her professional life to public service, holding several local, state, and federal clerical positions throughout her career. Most recently, she was employed at the Berwick Town Hall, where she served as deputy town clerk before being promoted to town clerk in September. Valerie was known for her reliability, professionalism, and dedication to her work and community.

Above all, Valerie was a caring, selfless, and giving person who put family and others before herself. She cherished time spent with her loved ones and found joy in many creative pursuits, including writing poetry, crafting, line dancing, and attending paint nights with friends.

Valerie is survived by her beloved son, Camden (Cadence) Andrick; her stepchildren, Anna and Gabe Ammarell; her stepmother, Ronelda Whitmore; her stepfather, Mike Maybury; her brother, Rick Whitmore; and her stepsisters, Becca Dyer and Penny Sargent. She was a wonderful woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lorraine “Shirley” L’Heureux

Lorraine “Shirley” L’Heureux entered eternal peace in the early hours of Friday, Jan. 9, in her home surrounded by the love of her family. Shirley was born on Jan. 19, 1935, in Sanford to Wilfred and Antoinette (Gallant) Durant. She was the younger of two children and shared a lifelong bond with her brother, Roger Durant of Sanford.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband and jitterbug partner, Normand L’Heureux, in May of 2019. Their love for one another—and for dancing through life side by side—was a joy to all who knew them.

For many years, Shirley worked as an insurance and real estate broker at the Batal Agency, where she built lasting relationships with her clients through her warmth, integrity, and genuine care for others.

Shirley was the heart and matriarch of her family, keeping everyone close and deeply connected. She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she was always ready to roll up her sleeves to help wherever she was needed. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. When her children were young, she lovingly shared her faith as a Sunday school teacher. Shirley found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She treasured family gatherings and holidays, enjoyed sea glass hunting, and loved traveling with Normand to Sedona, AZ, California, Florida, and the islands.

Shirley is survived by her loving children: Debra (Kenneth) Hopkins; Kevin (Lorina) L’Heureux; Gina (Chet) Sawtelle; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her brother Roger (Joan) Durant; along with many nieces and nephews.

Shirley will be remembered as a strong, loving woman whose heart was generous, whose faith was steadfast, and whose love for her family was unconditional. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Jan. 24 at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Family and friends are invited to gather at The Ridge Event Venue, 49 Shaw’s Ridge Road, Sanford, to share memories and celebrate Shirley’s beautiful life. A graveside service will take place in May.
