Helen R. Gallant, 86, of Springvale, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at St. Andre’s Health Care in Biddeford, surrounded by the care and comfort she so richly deserved.
Helen was born in Sanford on Aug. 2, 1939, the daughter of Donat and Laura (Turcotte) Desrochers. She grew up in Sanford and attended local Catholic schools, where the values of faith, patience, and devotion were firmly rooted and shaped her life.
Helen devoted her life to raising and caring for her family, a role she embraced with quiet strength and endless love. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who found her greatest joy at home, surrounded by those she loved most. She loved going to the beach, listening to music, coloring, arts and crafts, activities that reflected her gentle nature and appreciation for simple pleasures. Though soft-spoken, she had a wonderful sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and patience that made everyone around her feel at ease. Helen’s life was one of quiet love, steady devotion, and gentle kindness — a legacy that will live on in the hearts of her family forever.
Helen was predeceased by her parents and by four siblings, Conrad Desrochers, Rita Cabana, Robert Desrochers, and Theresa McFarland. She is lovingly remembered by her son, John Gallant and his significant other, Roy Gee; her three daughters, Diane Numann, Christine Gallant and her husband Russ Haskell, and Julie Gallant; her former spouse, Emile Gallant; five grandchildren; her sister, Jeannette Robichaud, and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.

Lorraine B. Goodness, 86, a lifelong resident of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, at Pinnacle Health Care in Sanford.
She was born on Sept.10, 1939, the only child of the late Roland and Doris (Littlefield) Bouffard, in Sanford, where she grew up and attended local schools and graduated from Sanford High in 1957.
Lorraine devoted most of her life to caring for her home, her husband, and her children as a homemaker. After her children were grown, she went on to serve the community as a school crossing guard, a role she held for nearly 20 years.
Lorraine enjoyed knitting and crocheting hats, mittens, and scarves, making sure that family and friends received a new set each year. She was a good listener, generous with her time, and a natural caregiver, often opening her home to those in need.
Lorraine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Joseph Goodness, in 2007. She is survived by her son, Joel (Rachel) Goodness; her daughter, Melissa Baldwin; three grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
