A cross-grade collaboration at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary School, focusing on Greek myths, builds student confidence and communication skills.

It’s all Greek to them: Second-grade students at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary School recently hosted a special learning showcase for their third-grade peers. The young storytellers retold classic Greek myths, explained key characters and themes, and displayed their creative work through both writing and illustrations. The audience of third graders asked thoughtful questions and connected the myths to their own classroom learning.

Kindergarten Registration Night: Sanford School Department’s Community-wide Kindergarten Registration Night is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 3:30 – 6 pm at Sanford Pride Elementary School, 708 Main St. This is the first stop on the Kindergarten Trail, a six-step series designed to help families feel confident, connected and ready for the first day of school. Attendees at Registration Night will have the opportunity to meet school staff and community providers as well as pick up a free K Bag, free book and community resources. The Sanford Backpack Program will also distribute food at the event. Children who are 5 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible to register. March has 31 days, so more chances to win: St. Thomas School has officially kicked off their 2026 March Madness Calendar Fundraiser. The calendar offers chances to win gift cards, experiences and opportunities, with multiple prizes pulled each day and multiple chances for participants to win. Calendars, priced at $10 each, can be purchased during the month of February before and after Masses at Holy Family Church, by calling St. Thomas School at 207-324-5832, or by reaching out to a current St. Thomas student/family.

Two SCA students to represent SMCC on the court: Sanford Christian Academy (SCA) recently announced that Kenadie Libby and Elyanna Carle have been recruited to play volleyball at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC). Libby, who graduated from SCA in 2025, took a year off before deciding to continue her education at SMCC. Carle has played for SCA since 2021 and plans to continue at SMCC.

It’s time to dust off that bat and ball: Sanford-Springvale Little League sign-ups are open for baseball and softball. The sign-up period closes on March 15, with assessments scheduled for March 21. The cost is $108 and includes a jersey, hat/headband and socks. Financial assistance is available. FMI, and to sign up, go here.
