The Sanford City Council has approved a five-year lease for part of the Sanford-Seacoast Regional Airport to be used as a year-round food truck court. The vote at the council’s March 17 meeting was unanimous.
Parker Montano, already well-known to the city as the owner of Pine Tree Helicopters, will take on management of the food truck court, to be known as The Hangar. Montano is leasing the patio and pavilion, four food truck parking spaces and a storage area and will pay the city a monthly rent as well as a small percentage of gross revenues from the operation. Separate utilities for The Hangar will include 50-amp hookups for the trucks.
Airport Manager Allison Navia told the council that The Hangar is planning to start operations the first week of April, with a grand opening scheduled for May. Eight food trucks have already indicated interest. Providing breakfast six days a week starting at 7 am is the priority, but lunch and dinner options are also planned. Special events such as movie nights, classic car roll-ins and charity fundraisers are being considered and would require prior approval.
In addition to the outdoor space, Montano will have right of first refusal on the indoor space formerly occupied by Pilot’s Cove Café once it becomes available. Southern Maine Aviation is currently leasing that space while its new building is under construction. Portable toilets will be available for food truck vendors and customers until the indoor expansion can take place.
The lease also provides an opportunity for The Hangar to expand with more food trucks in the future if the airport stops using Gate 4.
