Matthew Hebert: Inspiring Ambassador of School Spirit

Matthew Hebert
Matthew Hebert, a senior at Sanford High School, has been selected to receive the 2026 Principal’s Award, Principal Tracy Gibson announced. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given to a senior who shows characteristics of academic excellence, outstanding school citizenship and leadership.
“Throughout his years at Sanford High School, Matt has been an outstanding contributor to our school community, both in and outside of the classroom. His infectious smile and genuine love for Spartan Pride have made him a true ambassador of our school spirit. Whether participating in athletics, cheering on the sidelines, or lifting spirits in the hallways between classes, Matt inspires those around him with his warm personality and unwavering encouragement — embodying everything we hope to see in a Sanford Spartan,” Gibson noted.
Gibson, Hebert and other award winners and their principals will attend an honors luncheon Saturday, April 11, at Jeff’s Catering & Event Center in Brewer. The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of 10 $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA executive directors Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine’s school administrators.
