Sweat-Morin Homestead Seeks Volunteers

By Lawrence Furbish
Residents who are interested in history – especially the colonial era and Sanford’s local heritage – are encouraged to consider volunteering with the Sweat-Morin Homestead. The property on outer School Street runs on volunteer energy and always welcomes more helpers.
The homestead’s grand opening was celebrated last July. Many visitors joined Saturday tours or attended programs through October. Although the homestead is now closed for the winter, reopening is planned for April, and organizers hope to expand visiting hours and to again offer programs highlighting colonial life — and doing that requires volunteers.
Prior experience is not required. Sweat-Morin Homestead provides training and written materials to help volunteers feel confident leading tours and sharing the story of the homestead with visitors. Opportunities range from getting your hands in the soil to doing quiet genealogical research.
Other volunteer roles include tour guide, program and event management, fencing for varmint control, garden and building maintenance and photography. To volunteer or to learn more about the Sweat-Morin Homestead, send a message to info@sweatmorinhomestead.org.
