Thanks to the generosity of our readers and friends, Sanford Springvale News reached its $10,000 goal for our 2026 summer fundraising campaign!
We are tremendously grateful to everyone who contributed. Your support, along with year-round reader donations, advertising revenue and public notices, helps make it possible for the SSN to continue providing free local news to the Sanford-Springvale community.
Reaching our fundraising goal comes as we celebrate another important milestone: Sanford Springvale News has received approval from the IRS as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
When SSN was launched three years ago, Strategies for a Stronger Sanford agreed to serve as our fiscal sponsor, allowing us to accept tax-deductible donations while we established and grew the newspaper. We are grateful for their support, which helped us reach the point where SSN could become an independent nonprofit.
What does this mean for our readers? Those who established recurring monthly donations through Strategies for a Stronger Sanford have received information about transferring those donations to SSN through Zeffy, our new online fundraising platform.
Zeffy does not charge SSN a fee to use its platform. However, its donation page automatically suggests an additional contribution to support Zeffy. That contribution is optional. Donors can use the drop-down box, select “other” and enter $0 or any amount they choose.
Becoming an independent nonprofit opens new opportunities for SSN. As we plan for 2027, we will be exploring grants and other funding opportunities while continuing to rely on the support of our readers, local businesses, advertisers and public notices.
Just as important is the support of our volunteers. SSN remains a volunteer-driven community newspaper, and there are many ways to be part of it. We welcome people interested in writing occasional stories, covering regular topics or helping deliver the weekly print edition to locations throughout Sanford and Springvale.
You can also help simply by spreading the word. Tell your friends and neighbors about SSN, share our stories and encourage others to pick up the newspaper or subscribe to our weekly email edition.
Thank you for helping us build a sustainable source of local news for Sanford and Springvale.
