The Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce grew by two new members, Coles Corner Gift Shop and Springvale Fish & Game, in October. The chamber hosted four ribbon cuttings: at Great Bay Services’ new location in Springvale; with Fidium Fiber as it declared Sanford and Springvale a “gig town”; at the opening of a new accessible trail at Sanford Town Forest with Three Rivers Land Trust, and the opening of Cole’s Corner Gift Shop.
Chamber President Cari Quater attended the Maine State Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting in Portland, which preceded the gubernatorial debate. The chamber hosted two meet the candidates’ nights this year with the help of moderators and journalists Shawn Sullivan and Tammy Wells.
The chamber’s first AutumnFest was a success despite the chilly wind. Attendance was around 500 people, mostly families. Businesses and non-profits provided a variety of engaging booths for guests. The event will be back next year.
October’s Business After Hours was hosted by Partners Bank. With more than 70 people in attendance, it was a night for networking. Many new members in attendance used this opportunity to connect with their peers.
The chamber is fundraising to supply turkeys for the Peer Helpers group at Sanford High School. Each year, the chamber provides 50 turkeys for the Thanksgiving baskets that they assemble and distribute.
The last hiring event of York County Career Center’s fall series will be at Sanford Community Adult Education, 668 Main St., Sanford, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 2 – 4 pm. The chamber is co-hosting this event and encourages businesses to consider participating if they are currently hiring. Contact Marcella.J.Spruce@maine.gov.
November’s networking event is on Nov. 18, from 8:30-9:30 am at York County Community College’s Center for Excellence Campus at 60 Community Drive in Sanford. At this morning mixer, guests will network over coffee and then have a behind-the-scenes tour of the manufacturing training facility.
