Robert “Goose” Gosselin, age 77, of Springvale, peacefully passed away on May 6, 2026, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough leaving behind family and friends who loved him deeply and will miss him always. Bob was a man of quiet strength, deep kindness, and devotion to those he loved.
Bob was born in Sanford on February 25, 1949, the oldest child of Yvette and Roger Gosselin. He attended Sanford schools with his sister Celeste and two brothers, Neil and Marc. Alongside his brothers and sister, he started his working career at his parents’ store, Roger’s Supa Dolla. After high school, he joined the USMC and proudly served his country. Upon getting out of The Corp, he started working for the food stamp program, then joined the ranks at the Kittery Naval Shipyard, until he retired. He was a longtime member of the Lafayette Club, Wolf’s Club, and Springvale Social Club. He was also an avid trapper and a member of the Trappers Association of North Berwick.
He married the love of his life, Helen Veroneau, on September 22, 1982, at Cape Cod and became stepfather to Butch Martineau, whom he was very proud of and loved very much. Helen and Goose had over 50 wonderful years together. They built a life centered on family, perseverance, and lasting love. Those years were filled with treasured memories – family time, laughter, road trips, camping adventures, and rides on his Harley.
He loved all his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children. He had a very close relationship with his great-nephew, Mason; it was his honor to teach Mason to drive. He formed a special bond with each of them, took them to concerts, had Halloween pumpkin rolls, played games, and took them camping and ice fishing at the lake. The Trappers rendezvous was always a big hit.
Later on in life, Bob was diagnosed with dementia, which bummed him out so badly, but that did not stop him from enjoying what he could. Give him some music to listen to, and he was happy. We would take him for rides in the car, especially down to the beach, to the mountains, or out to eat, and during Butch and Cherie’s visit, Goose and Cherie had a standing breakfast date.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and brother Marc Gosselin. Bob is survived by his wife Helen; stepson Butch (Cherie) Martineau; sister Celeste and wife Jewell, and brother Neil. Also surviving are his many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
A graveside service with military honors was held on Thursday, May 14, at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale. For more.
