Nomination Papers Available Now for November Election

Want to have a say in how our city is run? Nomination papers for municipal offices are available now at the Clerk’s office in City Hall. The following offices will be on the ballot:
- Mayor – 2-year term. Mayor Becky Brink cannot run for reelection as Sanford has a term limit of two 2-year terms for mayor. Councilor Pete Tranchemontagne has already announced his intention to run.
- City Councilor – 3-year term (2). These seats are currently held by Maura Herlihy and Jonathan Martell.
- School Committee –3-year term (2). These seats are currently held by Paula Cote and Amy Sevigny.
- Water District Trustee – 3-year term. This seat is currently held by Brian Samia.
- Sewerage District Trustee – 3-year term (2). These seats are currently held by Nathaniel Hitchcock and Kevin Eaton.
Candidates for office must be registered voters with their principal place of residence in Sanford/Springvale. Candidates for mayor, City Council and School Committee must submit 50 signatures to qualify; Water and Sewerage district trustee candidates must submit 25 signatures.
The deadline to submit nomination papers is Monday, Aug. 31 at 5:30 pm. For questions regarding the nomination process, contact the City Clerk’s office during normal business hours: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voting at Sanford High School will be open from 7 am to 8 pm that day. Voters may request an absentee ballot beginning Aug. 5. Absentee ballots will be mailed out once the slate of candidates is finalized. In-person absentee voting will be held at City Hall beginning in October.
In addition to the municipal races, voters will be electing candidates for statewide and federal offices. There are no statewide ballot questions this year.
