Arthur P. Godin, 69, of Sanford, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1956, in Framingham, MA, to Donald Godin and Doris Bradley. He spent much of his childhood in San Diego, CA, before eventually settling in Sanford, where he built a life with his family.
Arthur was known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to providing for the people he loved. At Sprague Electric in 1979, Arthur met Cindy Chamberlain, the woman with whom he would share nearly 47 years of love, laughter, and life’s journey. Throughout his career, he worked for Sprague Electric, Hannaford, Jagger Brothers, SPM, Spencer Press, U.S. Optical Disc, Wasco, and Northeast Coating Technologies. Before retiring due to illness, Arthur took great pride in manufacturing parts used in medical equipment.
Arthur and Cindy welcomed their daughter Karrie in 1981, and she became the light of Arthur’s life. His love for his daughter was unwavering, and he was incredibly proud of the woman she became. Arthur found joy in the everyday moments of life. He loved being at home with his family, taking rides on his Harley, relaxing at his computer playing games, and spending time with his beloved cats, Boots and Aubrey. Those who knew Arthur knew he didn’t need much to be happy—just the comfort of home and the people and pets he loved most. His greatest joy wasn’t found in grand adventures, but in those everyday moments shared with the people he loved.
He believed in working hard, living within his means, and always taking care of the people he loved. One of the greatest gifts he gave was the practical wisdom he passed on to his daughter. His lessons about responsibility, finances, and perseverance will continue to guide those who loved him.
Arthur was predeceased by his father, Donald Godin, and his beloved son-in-law, Jason Steeves. He is survived by his devoted partner of 47 years, Cindy Chamberlain of Sanford; his loving daughter, Karrie Steeves of Limerick; his mother, Doris Bradley of Albuquerque, NM; his cherished grandchildren, Cailin Steeves of Michigan and Preston Steeves of Limerick; his brother Donald of Artesia, NM; his sisters, June of Albuquerque, Claire of Hope, AR, Donna of Surprise, AZ, and Gloria of Somersworth, NH; his lifelong friend, Jim Kemp, who was like a brother to him; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Arthur’s life during a time of visitation on Saturday, July 25, from 10 am to 12 noon, followed by a memorial service at noon at Black and Walker Funeral Home in Springvale.

Linda Powers Nickerson, 91, of Wells, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, with her family by her side.
Linda was born on Aug. 7, 1934, in Portland, the daughter of the late Leon Herbert and Alice Batchelder Powers. She graduated from Sanford High School in 1952 and earned a B.A. in Sociology from Colby College in 1956. That same year, she married Charles L. Nickerson, beginning a marriage that spanned 68 years until his passing in 2024. When asked the secret to a successful marriage, Linda’s answer was always the same: friendship, respect, and communication.
Linda devoted herself to her family, creating a home where family and friends always felt welcome as Charlie built his legal career. Together, Linda and Charlie formed a true partnership, and their commitment to one another left a lasting impression on everyone who knew them. They built a life rich with friendship and shared experiences. While they enjoyed traveling, they were happiest at their home on Moody Beach or on overnight trips to Boothbay Harbor.
Linda cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She listened more than she spoke, and when she did speak, it was usually worth hearing. She had a keen wit and a rare ability to offer just the right words, whether advice, encouragement, or quiet reassurance.
Some of her happiest moments were the simplest: seated at the glass-top table at Moody Beach, a deck of Skip-Bo cards never far from reach, surrounded by grandchildren, laughter, and the easy rhythms of summer. These moments, filled with both quiet joy and occasional exuberance, reflected who she was at her core.
She was a longtime member of North Parish Congregational Church, where she and close friends quietly shared their time and compassion with others.
She is survived by her three sons: David Charles Nickerson and his partner Suzanne Roux of Kennebunk; Charles Leon Nickerson and his wife Diana of Andover, MA; and Daniel Lloyd Nickerson of Wells; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and her sister, Hilda Versluys of Portsmouth, NH. She was predeceased by her brother, David Powers, formerly of Golden, CO.
At her request, no public services will be held. Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in North Berwick. Online condolences may be expressed on their website.
