Springvale Farm Walk

By Polly McAdam
Once a year, the trails between farms on Hanson Ridge Road open to the public. On Sunday, July 26, come to walk, bike or drive and visit seven farms in Springvale and discover the treasures your local farms have to offer.
The twelfth annual Springvale Farm Walk is a self-guided walk along mowed paths and gravel trails. The farms along the route raise sheep, orchard fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs, berries and more, including a community garden. This year, each location will have their own on-site treasure hunt – complete all seven hunts to fill out your treasure map! Many farms will have activities, refreshments, and additional farm items for sale.
To kick off the event, join Three Rivers Land Trust in the McDougal Orchards barn for homemade breakfast treats, coffee, tea, and good company beginning at 9:00 am. Enjoy a variety of baked goods, including gluten-free and vegan options, while connecting with friends and neighbors. Refreshments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
All donations will support Three Rivers Land Trust’s conservation work and ongoing trail development at the Sanford Community Forest. If you enjoy baking and would like to contribute a breakfast item, please contact us at info@3rlt.org or (207) 358-9619.
Farms on Hanson Ridge, Blanchard and Sunset Roads will be open from 10 am to 2 pm. There is no single starting time or place. Parking is available at multiple farms, and there are bathrooms and port-a-potties along the route. The paths are well-marked and kid friendly. Sturdy shoes and dressing according to the weather forecast are recommended. Mountain bikers, runners, and dogs on leashes are welcome.
This year there will also be a Story Stroll between Twin Maples Farm and Sky Island Homestead as well as a photo contest with prizes for the winners.
