The Sanford Performing Arts Center kicks off its new season when The Umbilical Brothers take the stage on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7pm.
Named two of Entertainment Weekly’s “100 Most Creative People in Entertainment,” Australian comedy duo David Collins and Shane Dundas have spent decades turning the conventions of live theater completely upside down and leaving audiences around the world laughing along the way.
The Umbilical Brothers have performed in 40 countries, from Hawaii to Tokyo and New York to Moscow, captivating audiences with a lightning-fast mix of physical comedy, vocal sound effects and verbal interplay. With little more than their voices, bodies and wildly inventive imaginations, the duo transforms everyday situations into hilariously unexpected theatrical adventures.
Their impressive résumé is almost as unconventional as their act. They have appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, performed after James Brown at Woodstock ’99 and even appeared before the Queen. Their comedy has also found a huge audience online, where their videos continue to introduce new generations of fans to their unmistakable style.
At the SPAC, The Umbilical Brothers will perform The Best of The Worst of The Best, bringing together highlights from some of their most-loved routines. The show combines mind-bending physicality, rapid-fire vocal wizardry and surreal comedy in a greatest-hits collection showcasing why the duo has earned acclaim around the globe.
Their appeal crosses generations, with younger audience members drawn to the wildly inventive physical comedy while the show’s more sophisticated humor lands squarely with adults. The result is an evening that is wonderfully difficult to categorize and even harder not to laugh at.

Tickets are $38-$58, plus a $3 per-ticket handling fee, with a 10% discount for seniors and military and a 15% discount for subscribers.
