The Sanford Performing Arts Center will welcome acclaimed composer, pianist, and Springvale resident Dr. Morton Gold to its stage on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 3 pm for “Once More, with Feeling,” a special concert featuring a selection of his original compositions. The performance is free and open to the public.
The concert offers a rare opportunity for audiences to experience the music of the 93-year-old composer who has devoted his life to creating and sharing music, performed alongside an accomplished ensemble of guest musicians. Dr. Gold will perform at the piano throughout the afternoon, accompanying instrumentalists and vocalists in a program that showcases the breadth of his musical imagination.
Among the program’s highlights is Gold’s “Concerto for Bassoon, Op. 91,” composed in 2007, which will receive its first performance in Maine, featuring bassoonist Desiree “Des” Caron.
The program will also feature “A Prayer for Peace, Op. 126,” a work that reflects Gold’s ability to communicate deeply human themes through music.
Joining Dr. Gold for the performance will be his son Tsvi Gold on euphonium, Desiree Caron on bassoon, Nathan “Nate” Caron on trumpet, and soprano Olivia Boughton.
For Sanford Performing Arts Center Artistic and Managing Director Brett Williams, the concert represents something particularly meaningful: the opportunity to celebrate a remarkable musician who calls the community home. “Morton Gold is a gift to our community,” said Williams. “He’s not only an extraordinarily talented composer and pianist, but also a wonderful person and friend. Having the opportunity to present his music right here in Sanford, where he lives, is something very special. We’re delighted to open our doors and invite the entire community to experience his work.”
Unlike a traditional classical concert featuring familiar works by composers of the past, “Once More, with Feeling” gives audiences the opportunity to hear original compositions performed with the composer himself at the piano, offering a personal connection between the music, its creator, and the audience.
The performance is presented as a celebration of music, creativity, and the extraordinary artistic talent found right here in southern Maine.
