May was a busy month for the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce. The chamber welcomed five members, including two brand-new businesses to Sanford, The Hangar food truck park and York County Pediatric Dentistry. The Ambassador Committee hosted five ribbon cuttings, including Aspen Bookkeeping & Tax, Strategies for a Stronger Sanford, Alex & Associates Realty, Ted’s Fried Clams, and Mikini Custom Embroidery.
Chamber President Cari Quater attended the annual Maine Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives in Portland. She had the opportunity to network with other chamber executives from around the state and to learn more about many topics, including the effect of housing on business, health plans for small businesses, and state legislation.
The chamber awarded its annual $1,000 scholarships to two students from the Business Academy at Sanford Regional Technical Center for their small business projects. Ethan Waddell was awarded the Faith Ballenger Memorial Scholarship, and Esme Gori was awarded the Lighthouse Credit Union Scholarship. Both students are from Marshwood High School.
Quater and Chamber Ambassador Kate Waterhouse attended a celebration for Threads of Hope’s 13th anniversary in Sanford. The thrift shop’s sales support 20 programs statewide that help fight poverty under the Catholic Charities umbrella.
May’s Business After Hours was hosted by Waypoint at their Springvale campus. More than 50 attendees were able to enjoy art displays, learn about adaptive tools, and tour the facility. The event was hosted by Executive Director Jennifer Putnam and events manager Kristina Billings and was catered by Cruisin’ Infusions.
The chamber will be at the Sanford Mainers for its Business After Hours on June 22. This will be a members-only program. The chamber will have access to the stadium at 5 pm for networking before the game starts at 6:30. Members are encouraged to register ahead.
