‘Loose Lips’ by Kemper Donovan

Summer is the perfect time for this cozy mystery set on a cruise ship.
This is the second installment in the Ghostwriter Mystery series by Kemper Donovan, but it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. As is necessary in any cozy mystery, there is a dead body or two and for good measure an attempted poisoning. The cruise ship setting lends itself well to the locked room murder set-up. Donovan’s light and sometimes snarky dialogue permeates the story, making it a breezy, humorous whodunit.
Belle Currer, her pen name, has come aboard a literary cruise at the request of her thorn-in- her-side friend from her MFA days to lead a writing class. Her recent publishing success of a mystery novel set in Maine, makes her the perfect candidate to lead the mystery writing course. During the cruise, as the class participants interact, share their struggles and nullify their various grievances with fancy cocktails, Belle is privy to the inside scoop and gains the confidence of writing participants. Belle narrates this mystery in the first person and name drops a variety of mystery authors along the way.
The third book in this series, “Sweet Spot,” just came out on June 30.
